3rd Party Information Providers

3rd Party Information Providers

Third Party information providers help our operators in two ways. Firstly, to confirm the existence of problems relayed to them from other sources. Secondly, to make them aware of any problems outside the range of our own monitoring equipment. Two examples of third party information providers are:

TrafficMaster

Trafficmaster provides real time traffic information on a national scale, but only motorways and trunkroads.

TrafficMaster.net can be found here. The manufacturer can be found here.

TAG - Traffic Alert Generator

TAG (otherwise known as Floating Vehicle Data) works through monitoring transmitters placed on a large number of fleets belonging to many private organsitations. The data is relayed back to a central source and alerts are given when the speed of traffic differs significantly from the norm. Journey times from one key point to another can also be provided by this system.

TAG can be found here. The manufacturer can be found here.

The Future

Third party information providers are likely to continue to be a very important source of information as the search for more detailed, accurate and timely information continues. The breadth of knowledge available from these private organisations will be harnessed more and more effectively into the future as the importance of good Traffic and Travel Management rapidly increases.
